Centennial Student Council
Making a difference, that’s what student council is about. Every year the student council does many community service projects both in our community and international. Last year the club packed over 500 meals for starving kids in Nicaragua. Last year the club bought Christmas presents for kids in Centennial who couldn’t afford it. The club wrote cards for dying veterans, went caroling in old folks homes, and volunteered at night to shine, a prom for people with special needs. The club is always brainstorming ideas to find a new way to make a difference.
If you talk to anyone in the club they will say that it doesn’t feel like community service at all. It feels more like hanging out with friends. Everyone in the club is so close and they all get along so well. A Lot of people in the club say that they have made a lot of friends because of student council.
Anyone can join the club at any time of the year. It may be a little difficult to get into it at first but, someone will pull you aside and fill you in. It doesn’t matter what time you join you will always be welcome to the community. We meet on Wednesdays from 2:45 to 3:00, in the Spanish room.
Profa has been leading the student council for fourteen years. She absolutely loves the club and loves what they do. Profa says that she loves seeing new students every year come in and want to make a difference. She says her purpose is to help kids as young as 11 to know that they can make a difference.
This year the club has been talking about electing presidents. This would not make the president more powerful this would just have more experienced people help lead the newer people. Everyone in the club will still have the equal amount of say.
If you are interested in helping others both in our school and in our community come join us. The doors are always open and you are always welcome.
