Scholarships, something every student should be thinking about. A way to pay for large college expenses to better our future. But when is it time to start thinking about them? There are many different scholarships to consider and to work towards, but one that really shines through is the Hathaway Scholarship. Which all people living in Wyoming have the opportunity to receive.

The Hathaway program has helped over 30,000 students in Wyoming continue their education beyond high school. Each year the program gives students $17,000,000 to pursue their aspirations. The Hathaway program provides a drive to all students to work hard and receive a scholarship. Something for every student to consider is the fact that you can take some Hathaway courses before ninth grade. Which is huge and a reason it is not too early to start thinking about it. Also, every middle school and high school student in Wyoming is eligible for the scholarship. Which is another reason that it is not too soon to start thinking about scholarships. There are four types of Hathaway scholarships you can earn. Honors, Performance, Opportunity, and Provisional opportunity. Each category has different requirements and different amounts of money you earn. 

To earn the Honors scholarship you must have a 3.5 high school GPA or higher, an ACT score of 25, must take 4 years of language arts, math, science and 3 years of social studies, and you must have either 4 years of Fine Performing Arts, Foreign Language, or Technical Education. 

To earn the Performance scholarship you must have a 3.0 high school GPA or higher, an ACT score of 21, must take 4 years of language arts, math, science, and 3 years of social studies, and 4 years of either fine and performing arts, career and technical education, or foreign language. 

To earn the Opportunity scholarship you must have a 2.5 high school GPA or higher, ACT score of 19 or higher, must take 4 years of language arts, math, science and 3 years of social studies, and must take 2 years of either fine and performing arts, career and technical education, or foreign language. 

To earn the Provisional Opportunity scholarship you must have a 2.5 high school GPA, ACT score of 17, must take science, math, language arts, and social studies, and must take 2 years of either fine and performing arts, career and technical education, or foreign language. 

As you can see, there are many opportunities to think about and consider when talking about a scholarship. Which leaves one major question.. Is it too early to start thinking about future scholarships? I think any age should think about scholarships, it can give them drive and motivation. Whether you care about scholarships or not it will always be something to consider.
