Social Media Trends
January 13, 2021
There have been many trends on social media websites, from eating Tide Pods to girls dancing for views. Many of these trends have taken over the internet. Others come and go, but many people do them.
First, in January of 2018, many teenagers, young adults, and even adults were eating Tide Pods. This trend was a very dangerous media take over, many lost their lives from this catastrophic act. According to the wikipedia, “…poison control centers reported over 7,000 cases of young children eating laundry pods.” Therefore, many idiotic people have died from this bad trend. Moreover, no one should follow dangerous trends.
There has also been some pretty stupid trends in 2020. For example, the wap dance. This dance was very inappropriate. This whole dance was people dancing for views. Many young teenagers enjoyed this act, hence the reason for many views and likes. According to vulture.com, “The most famous of the challenges came on August 8, one day after “WAP” broke the internet. Choreographer Brian Esperon posted the dance, and commenters started dedicating their lives to learning the splits.” Therefore, people are dedicating their lives to stupid trends.
There were also some good but annoying trends that came and have been a big trend for almost a year. For example the TikTok dance, Renegade. This dance was TickTockers swinging their arms around like maniacs. According to vox.com, “The Renegade is the biggest dance in the world right now. Lizzo has done the Renegade. … In short, it’s a quick, multiple-step dance that incorporates popular moves like the woah, the wave, and the dab to the song “Lottery” by Atlanta rapper K-Camp, and it’s everywhere.” Also, this dance made many people famous. For example, Charli D’amelio. According to bugle24.com, “Charli became popular after uploading a dancing video for the video “Lottery (Renegade)” and also for joining TikTok’s Hype House collective in LA. Renegade became so popular that it became a meme in itself. … She has also starred in a Sabra Hummus Commercial and is the first TikTok star to have played at the Super Bowl.”
Therefore, many of the trends in the world are bad, but sometimes beneficial to some people. Many of these trends may help people in hard times, beneficially. In more depth, say someone was in debt and they started doing youtube. Say the outcome of this was them getting famous. Getting famous will produce money to those who are doing this act. This may help them and make them feel better about themselves.
